Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, also called the Diamond Celebration, was a once-in-a-lifetime event. The park was filled with new shows, sparkling lights, and magical surprises that made every visit unforgettable. Since opening on July 17, 1955, Disneyland has been a place for families to laugh, dream, and create memories. Sixty years later, the magic was brighter than ever.
Nighttime Spectaculars
The Diamond Celebration introduced new evening shows that wowed visitors:
Paint the Night Parade – A dazzling parade with more than 1.5 million lights.
Disneyland Forever Fireworks – Fireworks mixed with projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, Matterhorn, and It’s a Small World. The finale song was written by Disney legend Richard M. Sherman.
World of Color – Celebrate! – Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey Mouse, this show featured 1,200 fountains, lasers, pyrotechnics, and classic Disney music.
Park Attractions and Updates
Classic rides and attractions also received fresh magic for the anniversary:
The Matterhorn Bobsleds welcomed a scarier Yeti.
The Haunted Mansion brought back the Hatbox Ghost, unseen since 1969.
Peter Pan’s Flight added new effects and special touches.
The jewel of the park, Sleeping Beauty Castle, sparkled with thousands of diamonds and crystals by day and glowed at night.
Dining and Hotels
Guests could enjoy both fun in the parks and luxury stays nearby. Options included:
Disneyland Hotel with themed suites.
Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, where we stayed, offering its own entrance into Disney California Adventure.
Dining was also a treat, especially at Napa Rose, the award-winning restaurant inside the Grand Californian.
