We checked into the Balboa Bay Resort, the only full-service waterfront property in Newport Beach. Spanning 15 acres along the bay, the resort celebrates Southern California’s natural beauty. Our room opened to a private balcony, where we enjoyed sweeping views of the harbor. With excellent service, comfortable rooms, and a perfect location, it was the ideal base for exploring Newport Beach.

Dining in Newport Beach
Food is a big part of the Newport Beach experience.
- Red O Restaurant – Located at Fashion Island, it features Mexican flavors with a California twist by Rick Bayless. We started with guacamole and queso fundido, followed by Braised Short Rib Enchiladas, and ended with a cuatro leches dessert. The décor was as stunning as the food.
- FIG & OLIVE – A Mediterranean-inspired spot also at Fashion Island. Our meal began with Burrata & Heirloom Tomato Caprese, continued with filet mignon, and closed with a warm chocolate soufflé.
Beyond these, Newport Beach offers fresh seafood restaurants by the harbor and casual beachside cafés, perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Explore by Bicycle
We rented electric bikes from Pedego Corona del Mar and set off on a guided tour. The ride took us along the Balboa Peninsula and Newport Harbor, and even across the ferry to Balboa Island. The island is filled with charming shops, galleries, and historic homes—and is famous for its frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and covered with toppings.
Take to the Water
Newport Beach has the largest recreational harbor on the West Coast. We rented an electric Duffy Boat and cruised around the harbor at our own pace. With snacks packed on board, we enjoyed the sunshine, saw seals up close, and admired the waterfront homes.
