Calling all climbers, hikers, fisherman, nature-lovers, and adventurous spirits – Mount Hood, Oregon, is a perfect travel destination. From snowy peaks topped by 11 glaciers to pristine reflective lakes, there is nothing quite like this crown jewel of the Beaver State.
Recently, we ventured off and took advantage of the crisp mountain air and breathtaking views by hiking to one of the many area waterfalls, Bridal Veil Falls, enjoyed mountain biking, and taking a trip down the Columbia River Gorge. Only a two-hour flight followed by a one-hour drive from San Diego, it is easily accessible.
One of the highlights of our trip was spending time at the Historic Timberline Lodge, an icon of the mountain known for its great hospitality and exterior filming location for the movie The Shining, perfectly nestled location amongst the great outdoors at the base of Mt. Hood. It is also one of the only year-round skiing destinations in North America. Standing over 11,000 feet tall, Mount Hood is perfect for mountaineering or a very steep hike! For those who are looking for something mellow to do, there are plenty of options to choose from, including visiting an apple orchard, picking huckleberries, or fishing the many mountain rivers and streams.
Mount Hood is a great place to get away from it all and where you can enjoy the subtle sounds and beauty of nature that surrounds making it a perfect ESCAPADITA.
