Auberge du Soleil

Napa Valley, just north of San Francisco, is California’s crown jewel of wine country. With rolling vineyards, world-class wineries, Michelin-starred dining, and luxury hotels, it’s the perfect destination for romance, relaxation, and unforgettable wine tasting. For travelers from San Diego, Napa is an easy yet extraordinary getaway that feels a world away.

Flying Private from San Diego to Napa

Our Napa adventure began in San Diego with Schubach Aviation, the region’s premier private jet company. Arriving at Palomar Airport, we drove our car directly onto the tarmac where a Citation CJ3 awaited us. The convenience was unmatched—our luggage was transferred straight from our car to the plane, and within minutes we were greeted by two friendly pilots and ready for takeoff.

In just an hour and a half, we touched down at Napa County Airport. True to Schubach’s seamless service, our rental car was waiting right on the tarmac, bags already loaded. Within minutes, we were on the road and headed toward the vineyards of Napa Valley.

Wine Tasting in Napa: Our Personal Journey

Napa is home to more than 400 wineries, each offering something unique. On this trip, we experienced three very different yet equally memorable tastings:

  • Castello di Amorosa – A fairytale-like castle winery that transported us to medieval Europe while we enjoyed authentic Napa Valley wines.
  • Beringer Vineyards – A Napa classic and one of the oldest wineries in the region, where tradition and history meet exceptional wine.
  • Raymond Vineyards – Bold, modern, and unexpected, this winery gave us a fresh perspective on Napa’s cutting-edge winemaking.

From castle-like charm to historic estates and innovative tasting rooms, Napa Valley wine tasting offers something for every palate.

A Luxury Stay at Auberge du Soleil

After a full day of tastings, we retreated to Auberge du Soleil, an intimate hillside resort overlooking the valley. The Mediterranean-inspired décor of our room, complete with French doors opening to endless vineyard views, set the stage for a tranquil and romantic evening.

Dinner at the Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil was a highlight of the trip. The cuisine, inspired by the seasonal bounty of Napa Valley and paired with local wines, was a perfect blend of flavor and elegance. Watching the sun set over the valley while dining made for an unforgettable memory.

More Reasons to Love Napa

Beyond wineries, Napa Valley offers countless experiences to make a getaway special:

  • Hot air balloon rides at sunrise for panoramic vineyard views.
  • Michelin-starred dining for food lovers.
  • Luxury spa retreats to relax between tastings.
  • Scenic drives through vineyards and charming small towns.

Why Napa is the Perfect Escapadita

For us, traveling to Napa with Schubach Aviation turned what could have been a long trip into a stress-free luxury experience. The privacy, time savings, and ability to travel on our own schedule allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the romance of Napa Valley.

Our Napa getaway was a reminder that sometimes the best escapes are just a short flight away. Whether for wine tasting, fine dining, or simply soaking in the beauty of California wine country, Napa is the perfect Escapadita from San Diego.
